Loch Tummel fishing

This catch was submitted by our reader, Ross Black, in Scotland. It’s a beautiful 7lb 8oz wild brown trout, caught from Loch Tummel in Perth and Kinross earlier this month.

Ross fishes Loch Tummel from his own boat, and in this case he was trolling with a Wigston’s Tazmanian Devil. He caught this beauty – his biggest brownie ever – during an early morning session, at around 8am.

He told us: “At first the fish was fighting like a salmon – just trying to go down – and then ‘SPLASH’ – it jumped several feet out the water, right next to the boat. I was fighting it for several minutes before I finally got it in.”

A jumping brownie – nice work Ross!

Ross says that Loch Tummel fishing is not only productive but is also great value. Day permits cost £5, or you can get an annual ticket for £40 a year. As well as plenty of big brownies, he told us he regularly catches seatrout and sometimes salmon, like this fish that was caught in the spring.

Thanks for sending this in Ross – and tight lines for the rest of the year!
