Fishing Poems

Fishing poem

God Grant That I May Live to Fish

God grant that I may live to fish
Until my dying day
and when it comes to my last cast
Then I most humbly pray
When in Lord’s great landing net
I’m peacefully asleep
That in His mercy
I be judged as good enough to keep.

Enjoy Thy Stream

Enjoy thy stream, O harmless fish;
And when an angler for his dish,
Through gluttony’s vile sin,
Attempts, the wretch, to pull thee out,
God give thee strength, O gentle trout,
To pull the rascal in!
John Wolcot

A Simple Question

We ask a simple question
And that is all we wish:
Are fishermen all liars?
Or do only liars fish?
William Sherwood Fox

God Grant That I May Catch a Fish

God grant that I may catch a fish
So big that even I
When speaking of it afterwards
Will have no need to lie

Finn’s Favorite Fish (Tongue Twister)

Finn’s favorite fish’s favorite food fell flat.
Finn’s favorite fish’s favorite food falls for fluid.
Finn’s favorite fish’s favorite food fed Finn’s favorite fish.
Finn’s favorite fish falls for Finn’s favorite fish’s favorite food.
Finn’s favorite fish’s favorite food falls for Finn’s favorite fish.
Finn’s favorite fish’s favorite food fills Finn’s favorite fish.
Finn fishes for Finn’s favorite fish’s favorite fish food for Finn’s favorite fish!

Fish Swim

with fish
I swim
with fish
I do
with schools
of fish
in oceans
blue
they let
me swim
these fish
schools do
as one
of them
a fish in
school

Is it Really Like Fishing?

They say there is many fish in the sea to choose from.
But have you ever gone fishing?
They say do not worry they are like fish you lose one then get a fresh one.
But have you actually gone fishing?
They say you can be picky when fishing your fish.
But have you been in the sea and fished?
They even say some actually smell like fish.
But have you really smelled a fish?
They say there is plenty of fish in the sea.
But have you actually gone and counted the fish in the sea?
They say once you catch that perfect fish, you are bound for a good life.
But have you caught that perfect fish they all speak of?
They say some fish can be beautiful.
But have you seen any beautiful fish?

How can one compare a fish?
They are not alike.
How can one say it is as easy as finding a fish?
It is not a simple task.
How can they say there are so many fish in the sea?
When there are so many fishers who have yet to catch.

Can you really compare life and love to a fish?
The answer is of course not.
You can’t.
Impossible.
Unreal.
Not imaginable.
Unbelievable.
Unrealistic.
A fairy tale.

A Fishy Tale

I saw you twice the other day
Stirring passion anew
It’s easy saying just move on
Less easier to do

Ive always said to others
There’s plenty more fish in the sea
But some days it makes no difference
How many fish there be

On the face of it, a small fish
But you took over my whole sea
Never before had I gone fishing
It was all so new to me

You were someone that I longed for
I’d never felt like that before
Some months on, now I’m seeing
The sea has fish once more

But some days you’re the only fish
Swimming in my sea
And the fervor that you stirred in me
Will forever be
